Retirement Visa?
All foreigners entering or living in the Kingdom of Thailand must have a valid permission to stay. Thailand offers a whole host of visa options to arriving foreigners, each of which is issued for a specific purpose; tourism, education, work, marriage and more.
You may not know this but Thailand technically does not have a Retirement Visa. The correct term is actually an extension of a Non-Immigrant type visa for the purposes of retirement. This type of visa and its extension has become unofficially known as the Retirement Visa, a term used even by Immigration officials.
This type of visa and its extension allows the holder to remain in Thailand for a period of one year, this extension is renewed annually without having to exit the country as long as the applicant still meets all of the Thai Immigration’s requirements for the extension.
The Thai retirement extension for the purposes of retirement lasts for one year.
